This past weekend saw the state tournaments for track and tennis get rolling. Already fielding quite a strong track program the tennis program at Logan County was looking to take that next logical step into the region. Last season they had some strong performances but failed to send anyone off to state.
This season though, Logan County managed to get a doubles team in Brenna and Meg Brown through into the state tournament by advancing to the semi finals match in the region tournament. Despite battling valiantly with a sound strategy in their match against Metcalfe they fell in the region tournament semi finals.
After they got the news that they would be facing sisters in the state opening round from Beechwood the doubles pair in Brenna and Meg Brown began to prepare. A week past and the twins from Logan County took to the court against another pair of sisters from Beechwood.
Brenna and Meg got out to an early 3-0 lead and looked to have things under control but Beechwood’s pair started to wake up and inched back into the game. They would close the gap and then take the first game at 7-5. Playing a best of three match Brenna and Meg tried to push that early loss out of their mind. They got out to an early lead before Beechwood slowly caught them and pulled away for a 6-3 game and match sealing defeat.
Despite the early round loss this was a great experience for the doubles that have gone through a lot throughout the past four seasons at Logan County. And it’s a great sign for the LCHS tennis program as a whole as they try and build a consistent strong tennis program in the region.
