The Cougars have been one of the better teams in the region this season but didn’t have that one marquee win they could point to and say that was it. They had two victories over Russellville and two against an underachieving Warren East team earlier this year.

But after getting surprised on the road against Bowling Green, Logan County was looking to show the rest of the region that they belonged in the upper echelon of the region. They would go on the road against Allen County-Scottsville a historically strong program and also got ambushed on the road for a 9-7 loss.

They would get their chance to redeem themselves when Glasgow, a top three region team, came to town.

In one of the more intense games of the season the Cougars used a strong pitching performance by freshman Caleb Bruner and some late game heroics by Ryan Harper to down the Scotties 2-1.

The Cougars and Scotties of Glasgow exchanged three straight scoreless innings. Then in the fourth inning Glasgow got a small rally going getting two runners on with nobody out. But after a double play it looked like the Cougars would get out of the inning unscathed, but a pass ball managed to account for the Scotties only run.

Then it was time for some late inning heroics by the Cougars’ Harper.

With Dustin Cartas on first base and nobody out Harper smashed a ball over the left field wall to take the lead at 2-1.

There were two more innings standing in between the Cougars and a victory over a top tier region team. Caleb Bruner has been a stellar pitcher for the Cougars this year and used Friday night’s game to show the rest of the region the potential he has in his arm. He stood against a team that averages over seven runs a game and limited them to the lone run while scattering four hits throughout the game.

The Cougars held on for the 2-1 victory over the Glasgow. This game showed that the Cougars have a fearsome three headed monster at the top of their pitching rotation in Dustin Nash, Thomas Miller, and now Caleb Bruner. The Cougars will look to those three to help power their way to the end of the season as they face Butler County on Monday, their home finale against Barren County on Thursday, and Greenwood on Friday night.
