The Adairville town square park continues to transform into one of the most beautiful town squares in Kentucky. This past week, a very large grand gazebo/band stand was installed at the west end of the park. It restores a tradition of having a band stand in the park.

Some five years ago, the Adairville-South Logan Chamber of Commerce adopted a five-year/five-phase plan of bringing the park back to the beauty and glory of the 1800s and the early part of the 1900s.

The plans for the park design were executed by the well known designer Jim Knight, formerly of the Adairville/South Logan area. He had extensive experience in working in the gardens and parks of both historic Hermitage and the Cheekwood Gardens in Nashville.

The first phase of the restoration of the parks was to install antique light poles on each side of the square. Phase two was to obtain cast iron flower urns and a grand fountain. The urns were placed in each corner of the park and the fountain was placed in the center. Both came from the world famous Johnson Iron Works located near Birmingham, Ala. Phase three of the park was the purchase of several dogwood trees, various plants and bulbs and the establishment of gardens at each corner of the park. Phase four has been the purchase and installation of three flag poles and commemorative markers at the north east corner of the park. This phase also included the building of a beautiful pergola at the east end of the park facing Hwy. 431, the Russellville/Nashville Highway, and the purchase of 25 benches for the park. Phase five of the park design has been the purchase of a grand gazebo/band stand that now sits at the west end of the park. Overholt & Sons Company of Schochoh was responsible for the creation and delivery of the grand gazebo/band stand.

The Adairville-South Logan Chamber of Commerce has raised all the money that has paid for this outstanding project. No tax money was used. Through the hard work of members and the generosity of numerous citizens, this five-phase plan has been completed.

Dick Dickerson, current local chamber president, praised community leaders such as Donna and Thurman Blake, Billy Smith, Debbie Ramsey, Danny finch, Judy Tanner, Mr. and Mrs. John Lee Barnes and the Byrum Family for helping the chamber accomplish its good of restoring the town square park into one of the most beautiful in the state. Dickerson said additional work will continue on the park until all final tasks are accomplished.

A dedication service for the completion of the park will be held in the spring.
