Sircy missed the meeting because her mother in Oklahoma suffered a massive stroke and she had gone to be with her.
Councilman Tracy Gunderson read a prepared statement from Sircy asking that any vote involving Houchens be put off until she could return for a special-called meeting.
“I feel that's the least we can do for Marla at this time,” Gunderson said. “She has put a lot of work into the Houchens project.”
Sircy has served as the liaison between the city and Houchens Industries since the issue came up earlier this year.
Houchens has offered the city $45,000 for the piece of land beside city hall that includes the town's maintenance garage.
The plan includes building a new Crossroads IGA grocery store, which would also include gas pumps and a Subway restaurant.
At last month's meeting, the vote was split 3-3 with Gunderson, Danny Finch and Sircy voting no.
Not all the council members were willing to put off another vote, however.
“If this were me, this wouldn't be brought up,” council member Donna Blake said. “I don't think it's fair to keep dragging our feet because one person is out
