There is still no deal between Houchens Industries and the city of Adairville regarding the sale of land that could become the home of a brand new Crossroads IGA grocery store.

At least one major sticking point appears to be the relocation of the city's maintenance garage, which sits on the piece of property Houchens is interested in purchasing.

“Currently, both Houchens Industries and the City of Adairville are conducting some research regarding construction costs of a replacement maintenance facility,” said city council member Marla Sircy, who is serving as the liaison between Adairville and Houchens. “We hope to have all the information collected by the first of next week at the latest. Once the information is collected, we will schedule a special called meeting to discuss the findings and hopefully make a decision regarding the city properties.”

Just prior to the city's regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Oct. 13, Houchens offered Adairville $45,000 for the property from city hall to Taylor Street and back to Ewing Avenue.

When the Bowling Green-based company first approached the city council about selling the land over the summer, the members voted to make the price $125,000 for the property not including city hall and $210,000 with city hall included.

But at this month's meeting, the council voted 4-2 against the sale with Donna Blake and Nannette King being the two who wanted to go ahead with the deal.

Instead, the city council decided to make Houchens a counter-offer of $60,000. That motion passed 4-2 with Danny Finch and Tracy Gunderson voting no.

Houchens turned that offer down, leading to the research into the cost of a new maintenance building.

If Houchens does purchase the property from the city, the plan includes building a new Crossroads IGA grocery store, which would also include gas pumps and a Subway restaurant.

Houchens has been operating the old Hoovers IGA on the square since purchasing it several months ago with the intention of eventually closing that store and building the new Crossroads IGA.
