Tonight will be a good gauge of just where the Russellville High School football team stacks up among the top teams in the state.

The Panthers take on Class 2A powerhouse Danville on the road tonight after winning their past five contests.

Since the season-opening loss to Franklin-Simpson, Russellville has been on a tear - especially against its Class 3A, District 2 competition.

In district games, the Panthers have outscored their opponents 140-56.

But Danville is traditionally one of the best teams in the state.

So far this year, the Admirals are 5-2 and have won their last three games. Danville's two losses came against cross-town rival Boyle County (one of the top teams in Class) and Class 6A George Rogers Clark.

During Danville's recent win streak, the Admirals have beaten Fort Knox 47-7, Campbellsville 35-20 and Bardstown 40-26.

Last year, Danville came to Russellville and handed the Panthers their worst loss of the season, beating them 54-22.

After that humbling loss, the Panthers rebounded to win their next five games before losing in the Class 3A quarterfinals to eventual state champion Louisville Central.
