The Russellville City Council meeting was canceled 15 minutes after it began Tuesday night for lack of a quorum.

The meeting began with councilmen Russell Jones, Jack Whipple, Lanny McPherson and Jimmy Davenport in attendance; however, when Jones was called out for a family emergency there were not enough councilmen to continue. Councilmen Chuck Phillips and Mark Stratton were absent.

A special called meeting was scheduled for Thursday at 5 p.m. A second reading of ordinance 2008-15 and 2008-16 setting the 2008 real and tangible property tax rate and the 2008 motor vehicle tax rate was passed. Due to press time the decision will be published in the Tuesday, Sept. 23 edition of the N-D&L.

During the 15 minutes of Tuesday night's meeting Judy Denson and Barbara Hines won the drawing to receive free rain barrels from the city of Russellville. The barrels promote recycling rain water that can be used to water flowers or gardens.
