It's always good thing to remember the past.

And that's what the Russellville High School football team will be doing on Sept. 26 when the Panthers honor the 25th anniversary of the school's 1983 state championship football team.

At halftime of the game that night against Butler County at Rhea Stadium, the school will recognize any members of the team, coaching staff, cheerleading squad or managers.

“We're just trying to spread the word about that right now,” RHS principal John Myers said. “We want to recognize as many members of that team as possible.”

Myers also wants to have a special tailgating event for the 1983 state champions prior to the game.

The contest against Butler County will also be Senior Night for this year's football squad.

Because the Panthers play their final five regular season games of the year on the road, that is the final scheduled game for Rhea Stadium of the year.

But, if the Panthers finish either first or second in their district, they will get at least one home game in the Class 3A playoffs.

More information about the honoring of the 1983 state will be forthcoming.
