During this election, there has been much talk about change. Candidates promise that that they are going to be the one who will make the difference, the ones to start the change. It's important amidst all this rhetoric that we examine closely this potential.

In the case of Mitch McConnell, we have 24 years of track record to review. It certainly must be admitted that change has occurred over his tenure as Senator. First of all, we can see how America has changed. Over the past few years, our standing as a nation has fallen as we have found ourselves locked into a self-perpetuating war that needs to come to an end. Our once strong economy is now on the brink of recession and families are facing drastic changes as they lose their homes and security.

Under McConnell's leadership, the American dream has changed from being a hope to being a fantasy. Policies have changed from progressive advancement to static backtracking as McConnell has obstructed any sensible legislation aimed to help Kentuckians, all in an effort to protect the big oil companies and prescription drug companies. The focus of government itself has changed from public interest to special interests.

It's safe to say that if McConnell remains in the Senate, he will continue to bring about the same sort of changes that we've been seeing for the past 24 years. What we need to ask ourselves as Kentuckians and Americans is: Can we survive another term of such changes?

It is time for a new voice; it is time for Bruce Lunsford. We need someone representing Kentucky who knows what real change is. Bruce Lunsford supports progressive policies such as universal health care, tax relief for the middle class, making college more affordable, and ending the war. For a change, he's willing to work with all sides to get things done. Let's bring McConnell back home. After 24 years, he probably needs a change too.
