On Feb. 15, 2008, TVA Board of Directors announced it will increase wholesale electric rates by seven percent to their 158 power distributors. This increase will apply to all bills mailed after April 1. TVA's increase in electric rates is to help fund new power generation and energy efficiency initiatives needed to meet the growing power demand of the Tennessee Valley. As a result, Pennyrile Electric operating costs will increase proportionately.

Even though TVA's wholesale rate adjustment has been set at seven percent, the average residential customer at Pennyrile Electric will see a 6.01 percent increase. This means a bill of 1,500kWh usage, will increase from $122.72 to $130.10, including the monthly customer charge.
