The City of Adairville will continue to allow Atmos Energy to supply natural gas to its residents. The current 20-year contract is up in September and the city council had to take some action to continue the franchise agreement with Atmos.
Atmos representatives came to the Adairville City Council meeting Monday evening to discuss the city's options and express their desire to continue serving the community.
Atmos representative Anthony Stallins explained that the council needed to make decisions on they type of contract to create, the time of the contract and revenue options.
Stallins said that most of their contracts are non-exclusive contracts, meaning that another company can come into the area to supply gas. The council agreed that this was the type of contract they would have.
As for the length, Stallins said most of their contracts are 20 years. However, Mayor Jim Wilkerson said he was a bit concerned about locking the city in for 20 years.
“I think we might should consider ten,” Wilkerson said.
The council agreed and decided to go with a ten-year contract.
The last thing the council had to consider was the way they receive revenue from Atmos. The city currently receives one percent of the company's gross revenues from the city. The council decided to keep that amount the same.
Atmos has about 337 customers in Adairville and the city receives about $3,100 a year from their portion of the revenue.
The council passed an ordinance on first reading that spells out the details of the franchise agreement with Atmos.
