Some Logan County students had a bit of a scare on their bus ride home Thursday when a truck ran into the back of the bus.

According to the Logan County Sheriff Department's report, the school bus, driven by Tina Shoemake, was about to make a stop on U.S. Hwy 79 South (near Ed's Barbecue) when it was hit in the left rear by a truck driven by Robert Sumler, 45, of Madison, Ind.

Sumler tried to avoid striking the bus directly in the rear and after hitting part of it his vehicle crossed the roadway, struck an earth embankment and then crossed back in front of the bus before coming to a final stop on the right-hand shoulder. Sumler was driving a 2006 Ford F-350 truck pulling a tandem trailer.

Sumler and two students - Cody L. Shoemake, 13, and Lacey M. Fears, 14 - were transported to Logan Memorial Hospital where they were treated for their injuries and released. Shoemake, the driver of the bus, was also taken to Logan Memorial and treated and released.

The collision is under investigation by the Logan County Sheriff's Department. Also assisting at the accident were the Medical Center EMS and the Russellville Rural Fire Department.
