Kody Jordan was 2-2 from the free throw line in a clutch late-game situation.
Adairville led s 23-11 at the half and Lewisburg cut the lead to two in the second half, but were not able to catch up with the Cardinals.
“I was very pleased with our ability to really move the ball around and that shows in the balance of scoring,” Adairville coach Josh Davis said. “Our leaders stepped up and made big plays late in the game and our older guys knocked down some clutch free-throw's late in the game to preserve the win. Lewisburg fought back but we never panicked. The atmosphere was fantastic and I was glad to give our fans a tough, hard fought win for coming out and supporting us. It was just a flat out well played game by both teams and I'm proud that we came out on top.”
The Adairville girls also picked a 19-17 win over Russellville.
The Lady Cardinals' Kailee Williams led all scorers with seven points - including the game winning free-throws with 12 seconds left
Deja Thompson added five points - three of which came on the game tying 3-point shot with just over a minute left to play.
Brittany Martin added five points and Nikki Biggs had two.
Adairville was trailing 17-11 with three minutes left before finishing the game on an 8-0 run to get the first victory of the season.
“I couldn't be more proud of this team,” Davis said. “Our backs were against the wall with three minutes to go and I challenged our girls to respond and they most certainly did. We continued to make plays down the stretch to give ourselves the win. They have battled all season long and had several nights where they deserved better fate. I've been telling them all year that if we keep doing what we do every day in practice, we'll be rewarded for it. Tonight they were rewarded. It was a great defensive effort and we hit shots when we absolutely had to have them. Some from sixth graders and some from eighth graders. This was a team effort tonight. The crowd was treated to a great game played by both teams and we were fortunate to earn the victory.”
