Around 175 people gathered at the Kennerly's Chapel Cemetery Saturday to celebrate Hometown History Day and the 200th anniversary of Kennerly's Chapel/Lewisburg United Methodist Church.

The day began at Lewisburg Church in town, where guests watched a presentation about the history of the church. Guests were then invited to ride wagons out to the Kennerly's Chapel Cemetery, site of the original Kennerly's Chapel Meeting House.

Many people were dressed in period costumes and portrayed people who had lived 200 years ago. There was a program with music, singing and preaching.

Many descendants of those buried in the cemetery were on hand, some traveling from places like California, Arizona and Illinois.

The Bicentennial Celebration was hosted by The Kennerly s Chapel Cemetery Foundation, a non-profit group which been working for seven years to restore and clean up the historic Kennerly s Chapel Meeting House and Campground site as well as the cemetery. The cemetery has graves that date back to the early 1800s.
