The Patriots broke a 14-14 tie when junior running back Flint Lich scored on a 3-yard touchdown with 24 seconds left in the Class 4A, District 2 game.
Logan County was unable to get anything going in the final seconds as the Allen County defense locked up the Cougar receivers to seal the victory.
“Both teams played extremely hard - they played their guys out,” Logan County coach Lee Proctor said. “Unfortunately, one team is going win and one team is going to lose and tonight we just didn't make enough plays to get that win.”
Allen County's most impressive drive of the night was probably its final one.
The Patriots took over on their own 30-yard line and drove the length of the field in 16 plays. The drive took over seven minutes off the clock.
Allen County coach Brad Hood called just one pass play on the drive - a 9-yard reception by Ben Mahaney.
Lich carried the ball nine times during the series, including the final three plays.
“I thought we were a little bit tired,” Proctor said. “We gave up some big plays, but you have to give Allen County credit - they drove down and did it.”
The biggest play came on fourth and two from the Logan County 23.
Lich took the handoff and was hit in the backfield, but he got away and picked up the first down to keep the drive alive.
