The 15-year-old all-stars were the only Logan County team to win a game at state after all three all-stars teams won their district age groups.

In its first game at Henderson, Logan lost 16-6 to Owensboro. Pitches Kyle Powers and Ethan Edwards gave up 7 hits and 9 walks while striking out 4. The team made 3 errors behind them.

Robert Sergant, Brett Sowell and Power all singled. Robert Allen scored 2 runs with Sergant, Sowell, Edwards and Tyler Coleman scoring 1 each.

Nate Oberhausen and Coleman each had RBIs.

The win came 9-5 over Breckinridge County. Sowell went the distance on the mound, giving up the 5 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks. He struck out 5 while throwing 105 pitches.

Josh Walker had 3 hits while Edwards and Oberhausen each had a double and a single. Allen added 2 hits and Sowell singled.

Sergant drove in 2 runs with Edwards, Power, Walker and Oberhausen each getting an RBI.

Allen scored 2 runs with Derek Shoemake, Sergant, Oberhausen, Sowell, Edwards, Coleman and Power scoring once each.

The third inning was a big one for Logan, which sent 14 players to the plate and scored all 9 runs. After an out, Sowell walked, Edwards doubled, Allen singled, Coleman and Power reached on errors, Shoemake walked, Sergant reached on an error, Oberhausen singled, Sowell walked again, Edwards got his second hit of the inning and Allen walked.

Also playing in the win at state were Walker, Trey Hales, Michael Haley and Shane Broderick.

Logan's season ended in a 13-1 loss to Okalona of Louisville.

Allen was the starter and went 4 innings. Shoemake pitched the last 3 innings.

Allen doubled while Broderick, Power and Shoemake each singled. Broderick scored the lone run.

"We were just flat in this one and made a lot of mistakes. We couldn't the ball. Their pitchers weren't overpowering; we just didn't hit," says Artis Stratton, who assisted Billy Joe Coleman in coaching the team.

Stratton was also league president and the one most responsible for reviving Logan County Babe Ruth baseball.

"I think all three teams did well to make it to state when we didn't even have Babe Ruth last year," Stratton says.

"Billy Joe, Jerald Tabb and Dickie Shifflett all did a good job coaching their teams, and the players had a great attitude."
