While plans for the festival are going well, Logan Arts Council members Mark Griffin and Carole Ann Faulkner said they would love to have more artists get involved and they need volunteers. The festival will be Saturday, July 14, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. around down town Russellville.
“We want artists of all mediums,” Griffin said.
Faulkner said they haven't even tried to put a cap on what defines art. They just want people to share their work, no matter their skill level, experience or medium. Artists young and old are welcome as well.
“The point is to inspire the arts in all ages,” Griffin said.
There is no charge to set up at the festival and the artists will be on the square. So far, 25 artists are signed up to come. Art that will be on display, and possibly for sale, will include sculpture, photography, woodcarvings, jewelry paintings and more. It is up to the artists whether or not to sell their creations.
Griffin said the Logan Arts Council wants to promote the arts and see Logan County artists come together. This festival is a great chance for local artists to let others see their works and get to know one another.
Festival organizers are also looking for more volunteers. Volunteers are needed to help in the various areas, make sure things are running smoothly and on schedule and keep things clean and organized.
Griffin and Faulkner said they are very excited about the day. In addition to the art show and sale, there will be art workshops and programs. There will also be a farmers' market area, food vendors, musicians performing throughout the day, children's activities and a film festival at the library featuring independent films.
For more information on the festival and how to become involved, either as an artist or volunteer, call the Logan County Public Library at 726-6129 and ask for Griffin, Faulkner or any other member of the Logan Arts Council.
