The Chandler’s community showed great support of reading by participation in our Family Reading Night at Chandlers Elementary, Thursday, February 8th. Our lobby was transformed into a Book Fair Beach to “Catch the Reading Wave” as Kathy Vincent, Title I teacher, served hot dogs and drinks to families scattered across the lobby on their beach towels. Our new principal, Elisa Beth Brown, was our guest reader at the Book Fair and Clifford the Big Red Dog also joined us!

The Scholastic Book Fair turned into a week of literacy awareness for our students as we celebrated “I Love to Read!” February 12-16. The event began on Monday with “Lunch with Someone You Love” as special guests visited the school to have lunch, shop the Book Fair, and read with our students. On Tuesday, students and faculty dressed as their favorite children’s book characters, and our library media specialist, Carole Sindorf, entertained as the peddler from Caps for Sale. Wednesday, Valentine’s Day, we dressed in red for all the books we have READ! We concluded our week by wearing purple and white for School Spirit Day on Thursday and hats for Hat Day on Friday.

Studies show that students, who read, excel in school as well as life. When parents are involved in their child’s education, students earn better grades and have a more positive attitude about school.

Thank you, school community and the numerous volunteers. We reached an all-time high in sales for the library at Chandler’s In addition, many of us “caught the reading wave” and experienced a higher love for reading!
