Russellville is looking for a new fire chief and will soon conduct an interview process. Involved in the interviews will be Mayor Gene Zick, three council members, current and retiring fire chief J.L. Williamson and the state fire marshal.

Chief Williamson has been Russellville's chief since 1984 and served as assistant chief before that. He started serving the city in 1962 as a volunteer. Williamson said he hasn't set a date for retirement yet but is working towards the process.

The Russellville Fire Department currently has 9 full time firefighters and 13 volunteers.

Mayor Zick said he would like to fill the position from within he city. Zick said there have been city firefighters who have put in for the job. He said the panel will start the interviewing process with them first and will only go outside the city if there is not a viable applicant, but he said he feels the caliber of those in house who have applied will be sufficient.
