In a regularly scheduled monthly meeting Monday evening, the Adairville City Council agreed to renew the contract of Merle Wix to be the park manager for the city.

“He’s done a real good job out there,” said Mayor Jim Wilkerson.

Wix is a contracted city employee who has been serving as park manager for Adairville, and he requested to continue serving as manager.

The council voted unanimously to renew Wix’s contract.

In other news, the council agreed that City Clerk Becky Tinch should attend a grant workshop that will include information on the Safe Routes to Schools grants. Samantha Hamilton from Adairville School is also planning to go.

“Anything we can attempt to get, we ought to take a shot,” said Councilman Danny Finch.

  • Chamber Executive Director Donna Blake gave the council an update on all the holiday events planned in the city. Upcoming events include open houses at Adairville Flowers and the Chamber on Sunday, Nov. 19; the Schochoh Christmas Parade Sunday, Dec. 3 at 2 p.m.; the Adairville Christmas in the Park, “An Old Fashion Hometown Christmas,” featuring the lighting of the Christmas tree, on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m.; the annual Chamber Annual Christmas dinner on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 6:30 p.m. featuring speaker Lois Riggins-Ezzell; the Adairville Chamber Open House and Tour of Homes on Sunday, Dec. 10 from 2 to 5 p.m.; and the Home Decoration Contest on Monday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m.

“We have a lot going on,” Blake said. Anyone interested in learning more about these events should call the Adairville Chamber at 539-2080.
