Jimmy Davenport is a candidate for city council in the November election in Russellville.

He was born in 1954 in Russellville to Charles and Louise Davenport. He is married to the former Shirley Kemp, who has been an employee with BB&T for 30 years.

They have three sons. Ryan is a Western Kentucky University graduate and teacher at Stevenson Elementary. He is married to the former Tonya Hutchison and they are expecting their first child next May. Tyler is a graduate of Bowling Green Technical College and an employee of Insight Communications in Bowling Green. Will is a sophomore at RHS.

His brothers are the Reverend Randy Davenport, who resides in Elkton, and Joe Davenport of Russellville. Joe's wife Deborah is a teacher at Logan County High School. Their twin sisters are Brenda Whittaker, who resides in Russellville and is the wife of Sheriff Wallace Whittaker, and the late Linda Gant.

Jimmy Davenport is a long-time member of the Second Baptist Church. He has taught several Bible studies classes and has served as a deacon since 2002. In the past, he has been a member of two gospel groups. He was with “The Searchers” in the 1970's and then more recently with “The Davenport Family.” He played the lead guitar with both groups. Davenport is a 1972 Russellville High School graduate.

At the age of fourteen, he began working as a stock boy for Hancock Furniture. He began working at Houchens Industries at the age of sixteen, became assistant manager at Houchens at the age of 24 and then store manager at the age of 28. He worked for Houchens for 18 years and retired from there at the age of 46. After retirement he immediately began working with Southern Belle Dairy where He is currently branch manager.

He owned and managed Spring Acres Park from 1985 to 1992. Then he owned and managed Ribeye Express for three years until he sold the business due to job changes

In public service, he was one of the first fire fighters for the Russellville Rural Fire Department. He served on the Russellville High School Site Based Council for the 1998-99 school years; He coached little league baseball for seven years and junior pro basketball for 10 years. He have also served as vice president for the RHS Band Boosters. He is a past member of the Logan County Chamber of Commerce and he is also a Kentucky Colonel.

Jimmy Davenport says,

“If I am elected to the city council, I will work diligently to make Russellville one of the finest towns in Kentucky. I will represent the people of Russellville honestly, professionally and with integrity.

“I will be fair but forthright with all city employees and by making myself available to any citizen who wishes to talk with me.

“I aspire to help find solutions to the challenges Russellville faces now and in the future. I feel my love for Russellville as a life-long citizen and my experience as a Christian businessman qualifies me in this endeavor.

“My parents brought me up to value work hard as a youngster. I will put that same work ethic to use for you, the citizens of Russellville.

“On Nov. 7, please vote for me, Jimmy Davenport, for city council. I will greatly appreciate it.”
