Humane president Steve Lacy said they are well on their way to improving the shelter and want people to know the shelter is open for business.
The Humane Society has been experiencing financial trouble and recently informed the Logan County Fiscal Court that without help they wouldn't be able to make it through the winter and threat of closure was imminent
The court organized a focus team made up of five members who are investigating options to keep the center open. A recent decision was to purchase a large out building for the shelter for storage purposes. This freed up much needed space inside the shelter. Both Logan Fiscal Court and the Russellville City Council split the cost of he building.
Inmates from the Logan County Detention Center have been utilized for the cleanup effort. The building is being painted as well as organized. A community wide clean up day is expected to be scheduled soon.
The focus team decided the best option for a short term plan was to winterize the current shelter as cost efficient as possible until a long range goal can be agreed upon. One of the goals, according to the team, is to build a new shelter in a different location.
