Mr. Rogers was born April 19, 1921 in Logan County to the late Hugh M. Rogers and Ethel Edwards Rogers. He was a graduate of Auburn High School and a highly decorated member of the United States Marine Corps during WWII combat. He also served at the White House as a member of the National Marine Honor Guard for then President Franklin D. Roosevelt. He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and flower garden.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Rogers was preceded in death by his brothers, Hugh Edgar ‘Ed' Rogers and Forrest Edwards ‘Mike' Rogers, and his sisters, Rubye E. Bachert and Mary Katherine White.
Funeral services will be Friday, Sept. 29 at 11 a.m. at Young Funeral Home Auburn Chapel with burial to follow in Auburn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Rogers is survived by his children, Robert Hugh ‘Bobby' Rogers of Corinth, Steven Douglas ‘Steve' Rogers of Bushnell, Fla., Richard Martin ‘Ricky' Rogers of Zephyrhills, Fla., Sandra Joyce Gacio of Tampa, Fla., and Deborah Lee Rhoden of Lake Wales, Fla; his grandchildren, Rayma Tatum, Robbie Williams, Mallory Rogers, Stephanie Davis, Jason Rogers, Michelle Harrolle, Richard Rhoden; seven great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Margaret R. Matlock of Russellville and Joyce R. Lovelace of Evansville, Ind.
