A spokesperson for the county clerk's office said that businessman Larry Grayson has filed a Statement of Intent to be a Candidate. He would run as an independent.
The deadline for filing a statement was Monday, so it's too late for anyone who didn't meet yesterday's deadline. That wasn't a law I was aware of until after Friday's edition was already on the street.
Grayson and anyone else who may have filed such a statement Monday have until Aug. 8 to file candidacy papers.
Aug. 8 is also the deadline for those running for city council seats in Adairville, Auburn and Lewisburg or for vacant school board seats to file their candidacy papers.
If he chooses to run, Grayson will be pitted against unopposed Republican candidate Jimmy White and the survivor of Democratic candidates Dannie Blick, Logan Chick and Harris Dockins from the May primary.
