They tout democracy and freedom all around the world and then squash it in the United States.
Freedom of speech is guaranteed in the First Amendment to our Constitution! And yet a little day who has lost a son in Iraq (and has been trying to talk to President Bush for months, even camping out at the entrance to the Bushes' ranch in Texas for days) had no luck!
She was given a ticket to attend the State of the Union address by a Congressman from California. But she was arrested, cuffed and escorted out of the peoples' building by Capitol Police and jailed. Her only crime was wearing a shirt with the number of Americans who had been killed in Iraq, and the question, “How many more?”
Now if she had been wearing a t-shirt with the phrase that Vice President Chaney has mouthed to Senator Leaky on the Senate floor when he asked about Halliburton's no bid contract to rebuild Iraq, then move her out. But there were no filthy words on her shirt, just a public statement of the number of men and women in the U.S. armed forces killed in Iraq and the question of how many more.
Our Constitution gives her the right and the freedom to express her freedom of speech.
Is this Bush's idea of freedom and democracy?
I have a Nancy Atchison question, “Is this what her son died for?”
