On a beautiful Saturday, Nov. 6, the Auburn Historical Society was blessed with the work of the Logan County Detention Center, along with Lt. D. Reynolds and Lt. Dewayne Gates.

The plot of land around the blue-hole on our property was in need of clearing. It was a tremendous undertaking by these men and took the entire day.

There are many possibilities for the use of this land since it has been cleared and then hauled away, thanks to Mayor Dewey Roche. One proposal has been voiced that the property be used as an environmental outdoor classroom for the many school children in our county. Another idea is to use it for a butterfly garden and/or a fine place to visit and watch birds.

Any interested citizen or a group that would like to help develop a project on this piece of property, please contact any of the directors of the AHS.

That afternoon on their break, chocolate cake was served to the detainees and they were given a tour of the one-room school (circa 1885), and the two-cell jail that Auburn started using in 1865. At this time they were thanked and told they were appreciated for a job well done and that they had helped to preserve and make history in Auburn.

We send big thanks and hats-off to Bill Jenkins, jailer of Logan County, and to the fine deputies who work so well on the many projects here and throughout Logan County.

Most sincerely,
