Logan Memorial to host Family Healthfest 2005

Logan Memorial Hospital will hold its annual Family Healthfest on Thursday, Oct. 6, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. as part of the Tobacco and Heritage Festival Celebration.

The Healthfair, which will take place at Logan Memorial, is designed to promote wellness and disease prevention and provide information on various health topics.

All screenings will be free to the public. Some of those screenings include blood sugar, lung function, colon cancer, body mass index, and cholesterol, as well as blood-pressure checks.

Skin cancer checks will be provided from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. by Dr. Kay Wiatr, dermatologist. At 9 a.m., Dr. Abrar Arshad will give an informative talk on "Taking the Fear Out of Colonoscopy." The Palms Day Spa will offer free chair massages throughout the morning.

As always, a variety of health care providers will set up booths with free giveaways and healthy living information. Those attending include: Logan County Extension Office; Home Instead Senior Care; the office of Dr. Vivek Narain, urologist; Kentucky Home Place; Natural Health, health food vendor; Russellville Senior Center; BHI; ProCare Home Health; Wal-Mart; Lifeline; Adult Day Care Center; SKY Rehab; Logan Memorial's Cardiac Rehab Department and the Sleep Center; Logan Care for Women; and The Palms Day Spa.
