Lady Cougar v'ball 4th in invitational

The Logan County Lady Cougars finished fourth among 18 teams in the Pioneer Open volleyball tournament in Jeffersontown recently.

They won their two pool games with ease and then won their tournament opener in the Gold (championship) Division but then lost their final two games at the Louisville area event..

They beat Bourbon County 26-24, 25-21 in their Gold Division opener. Then came a 25-17, 21-25,17-25 loss to North Oldham. In the finale, Kentucky Country Day beat Logan 25-19, 25-19.

First in pool play, they got 5 kills and 13 attacks from senior Nadia Kowal and 6 kills and 12 attacks from sophomore Jamie Wilkins in a win over Bullitt East. Junior setter Becca Grayson had 13 assists and 4 aces. Sophomore Brittany Roark had 9 digs and Grayson 4. Kowal had 4 blocks.

Sophomore Jessica Cole had 6 kills and 7 attacks in a romp over host Jeffersontown while freshman Nikki Piper had 2 kills and 4 attacks. Sophomore Whitley Thompson had 3 assists while Grayson had 8 assists and 3 aces. Sophomore Lora Miller had 4 digs and senior Myranda Holder 3.

In the tournament opener against previously undefeated Bourbon County, Cain had 8 kills and 14 attacks in the win. Wilkins had 11 and senior Addie Wilson 8 attacks. Grayson had 9 assists, Wilkins 5 aces, Roark 4 digs and senior Shantel Jones 4 blocks.

Cain had 7 kills with Wilson and Wilkins getting 5 each in the match against North Oldham. Cain had 20 attacks and Wilson 17. Grayson had 19 assists and 3 aces with senior Whitney White adding 2 aces. Holder had 13 digs and White 9. Wilson totaled 4 blocks.

The KCD match found Cole and Wilkins with 4 assists each. Wilkins had 12 attacks and Cole 10. Grayson had 11 assists and an ace with Miller getting 2 aces. Grayson had 9 digs and Holder 5. Cain added 2 blocks.

(The Lady Cougars got a big district win Thursday by beating Franklin-Simpson 25-22, 27-25. Statistics are not yet available for that match.)
