Dear Editor: Road cleanup thoughts

Stuart's Chapel United Methodist Church once again sponsored a Relay for Life team. We chose to pick up roadside trash as one of our fundraisers.

Picking up trash is a hard and sweaty job. It's sometimes difficult to pick up a mess that we make ourselves; picking up someone else's is very hard.

We came across several items that we are certain were not just accidentally in the car and thrown out the window. I don't think anyone knows anyone who makes a habit of carrying a microwave or box window fan in their car, and you would have to use great effort to maneuver these items out the window of a vehicle.

This was surely put in the car with the intention of dumping it on the roadside. Shame on them! Maybe they were not aware of the free dumping day at the landfill each month.

We would like to thank Debbie Nelson for continuing to try to keep our country roadsides litter free and for allowing our group to participate.

Who knows, maybe the money we raised will be the dollars that find a cure for cancer. If that happens to be the case, then maybe the people who litter can feel proud!
