Medicare

prescription forum

The Bowling Green Social Security office is conducting a massive outreach program to inform the 14,000 potentially subsidy-eligible Medicare beneficiaries in its 10-county service area of the benefits of the new Medicare Prescription Drug program. The Logan County visits will all be at the Sportsman Club building at City-County Park. They will be today from noon-3 p.m. along with June 17 from 4-7 p.m., July 14 from 9 a.m.-noon, July 29 from noon to 3 p.m., Aug. 12 from 4-7 p.m. and Aug. 16 from 9 a.m. until noon.

Day observance

The Russellville Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will hold their annual Flag Day Luncheon at Federal Grove in Auburn at noon. Judge Tyler Gill will be the speaker.

EDC meeting

in Adairville

The Logan County Economic Development Commission (EDC) will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7 a.m. at the Adairville Community House/Senior Center. The EDC's meetings are open to the public. All who live and/or do business in Logan County are welcome to attend. For more information, please call the EDC office at 726-9575.

Free health screenings

The Western Kentucky University Health & Wellness Unit will be at First Presbyterian Church in Russellville to provide free cholesterol, diabetes and blood pressure screens from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Those with questions can call Beth Whitfield at 270-745-8824 or 270-991-6700.

Special blood drive

An additional blood drive has been scheduled at Wal-Mart from 1-7 p.m. Last week's bloodmobile visit was interrupted by the air conditioning going out at the National Guard Armory. Sacred Heart Catholic Church let the unit move there, but it's feared some people missed donating blood, which is critically short.

of '02 cookout

The Logan County High School Class of 2002 will have a cookout/class reunion planning meeting for their 2007 at 6 p.m. held at Hanks Construction Company (399 East Main Street in Auburn). A phone or e-mail RSVP by Wednesday to Laura Hanks at lahank2@uky.edu or 542-6061 would help determine the amount of food needed for the evening (meal provided). If you know the location of an LCHS Class of 2002 graduate, please pass this information along to Laura Hanks for her records.

Life luncheon

The city of Russellville will hold a salad luncheon to benefit the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. The luncheon will be held at the Recreation Center from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The cost is $5 for person.

Concerned

Citizens air

conditioner giveaway

The Concerned Citizens of Russellville and Logan County have some air conditioners to give to families who need them most. Concerned Citizens now has central air, says Director Doris West. Applications will be taken through from 12-4 p.m. Those applying should show either Federal Public Housing status, Low Income Home Energy Assistance eligibility, food stamps, SSI, Medicaid, etc. and then those deemed most in need will be selected.

Fund raiser

for Chandlers Rural

Modern Woodmen of America and District Representative Donald Bibb will sponsor a matching fund raiser for the Auburn/Chandlers Rural Fire Department, starting at 5 p.m. at the Chandlers Rural Fire Department building. A dinner and auction will be held to raise money for equipment. Modern Woodmen will match up to $1,000 of funds raised. For further information, call Leo Duncan at 542-4780 or Bibb at 726-6599.

NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet

The Russellville-Logan County Branch of the NAACP's annual NAACP scholarships will be presented at the Freedom Fund Banquet at 6 p.m. in the Logan County High School cafeteria. Branch members. families, friends, and guest of the students who have earned a scholarship are invited to help celebrate the theme 'Unity in the Community.'

Shake, Ride 'n' Roll!

The Shaker Museum will host the cycling event Shake, Ride 'n' Roll! featuring three rides: Metric Century (100K/62 miles), Metric Half-Century (50K/31 miles) and 10 Mile Fun Ride. Registration begins at 7 a.m. with all rides leaving the museum at 8 a.m. A Celebration Party featuring lunch and live music from Logan County Grass will begin at 11 a.m. at the 1824 Centre House.

Registration is $25 and all cyclists are encouraged to pre-register for the event. Registration forms can be downloaded from the museum's web site (shakermuseum.com).

'Cousins Convention'

All descendants of John and Samuel Baugh, the first Baughs in Logan County in about 1817, are invited. It will be held at Muhlenberg County Conservation Club at Lake Malone. Arrival and visiting will be from noon to noon. Bring a dish to pass. Bring an instrument if you play or sing. Reminisce with long-lost cousins or meet a few you didn't even know you had. The Logan County Agriculture Development Council is now accepting applications from incorporated organizations to administer programs for agriculture $161,137 in development funds. Organizations wishing to apply for model or non-model programs need to complete and turn in nine copies of the appropriate applications by 4:30 p.m. today at the Extension Office.
