Each May, a representative of East Logan Water District celebrates Water Week by visiting Auburn Elementary and Chandlers Elementary Schools and presenting a water conservation program. The students are given goodie bags filled with water conservation tips and some fun things, including a reusable water bottle and a packet of wildflower seeds.
Along with this program, East Logan Water District also sponsors an essay contest for the students. A student from each school will receive a $100 savings bond. As the summer season approaches, East Logan would like to encourage their customers to conserve water outdoors as well as indoors and to use water wisely!
East Logan is very instrumental in their leak detection program. Every customer that notifies the office of a water leak gets their name put into a monthly drawing for $100 credit toward their water bill. Being a "leak seeker" definitely pays off for both the customer and East Logan Water.
The district challenges all customers of East Logan to be water conscious and report any suspected leaks to the office. Thanks to all customers that have reported leaks and continues to be "leak seekers"!
East Logan is also happy to have added a state of the art telemetry system, which monitors water flows to the area of the system and tank levels. In turn, where there is a major change, the computer then alarms district personnel and notifies them the area that is out of normal operating ranges.
This new system will help the district respond to problems quicker, saving money in lost water and service outages to the customers.
East Logan also offers automatic water bill payment in the form of automatic bank draft. Customers who travel frequently, people with busy lifestyles, businesses, and anyone who wants one less thing to worry about can sign up. This service has been very positive and saves times, postage, trips to the post office, worry, effort, checks and late fees. It's very simple and any customer of East Logan can contact the office and request their water bill to be put on automatic bank draft.
East Logan is happy to announce that their second year of college scholarships is underway for students of Logan County High School and Russellville High School whose parents or guardians have water service in good standing with East Logan Water District. The 2004 scholarship winners will be announced later this month prior to graduation exercises.
Last year, full implementation of the Logan Todd Regional Water Commission's new treatment and transmission system was sought. The first customers began receiving water from the new system in March and the last customer was brought on line in June. East Logan made the transition to Logan Todd Water Commission on April 15, 2003. The Logan Todd project continues to receive accolades for its innovative approach to solving the area's water problems.
The Associated Builders and Contractors of Kentucky and Indiana announced that Logan Todd was selected to receive the prestigious 2003 Building America Award of Excellence. Logan Todd also received a similar award for engineering achievement. Logan Todd Water Commission is located in Guthrie.
After a very hectic but productive five years of planning, design and construction, 2004 should bring final completion of all project construction. East Logan customers can now rightly claim to have the most modern drinking water treatment system in the world. East Logan Water District is a member of the Kentucky Rural Water Association.
East Logan Water District's logo states "We Stand Behind Every Drop and Want Everyone To Be Water Smart"!
