The Russellville Winter Guard has geared up for another great season. In its fourth year of existence, RHS Winter Guard is fielding two squads, Russellville A and Russellville B.

Eighteen students are participating in this growing "sport of the arts." Both squads compete in the Southeastern Color Guard Circuit made up of approximately 146 guards from Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama.

The circuit is divided into nine divisions, with Russellville A competing in Scholastic A Division and Russellville B competing in the Novice Division.

Competition got started with the Russellville Winter Guard competing in the David Lipscomb "Cadence of Colors" in Nashville, Tenn. on Jan. 17.

Competing against eight guards, Russellville A finished in first place. At the Smyrna Winter Fest held Jan. 31-Feb. 1, Russellville A competed against 14 guards, gaining third place in each outing.

Russellville B participated in the Field Day Competition at the Smyrna Winter Fest; this is something new to SCGC this year. All guards that have or will have competed in the Novice and Scholastic Regional A Divisions go through Field Day Trials the first two competitions in order for the judges to recommend the best division for these guards to compete in.

Each guard receives judges' comments but not scores. Twenty-seven participated in the Field Day at the Smyrna Winter Fest. Russellville B Guard was given the choice of the division to compete in and elected to stay in novice, since this was only its second year of competition.

Both Russellville Guards will compete Valentine's weekend at Clarksville Northwest High School in Clarksville, Tenn.
