Two churches in Russellville are offering Thanksgiving celebrations for anyone in the community who needs food and companionship on this special day.

  • Bank Street AME Zion Church is starting an annual Thanksgiving Celebration for those who cannot are unfortunate and cannot get out or afford to have a Thanksgiving meal and are in need to have a meal taken to their homes.

Pastor John Baker says the effort is to help spread the joy of Thanksgiving to all in the community. He says that there are a good many people who are not able to get out of their homes and have no family to bring them a meal.

What is needed, said Baker, are volunteers to either bring food items to the church or come help cook and or transport the meals. "We already have some volunteers," said Baker, "but we need more."

The event will be held on Thanksgiving Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church located at 564 East Fifth Street, Russellville. The church will also be open for those who can get out and wish to dine in.

If you are interested in volunteering or wish to donate food items or are in need of a meal delivered to your home on Thanksgiving Day, please call 726-1506 or 726-4592.
