Halloween has become one of America's busiest observances, even though it's not officially a holiday.
Activities are planned all-around Logan County tonight, in addition to the traditional trick or treating.
Some planners are calling it Halloween, but many are going with the newer concept of 'HarvestFest.'
Here's a look at some of them we know about.
Treats Around Town in Adairville
The Adairville-South Logan Chamber of Commerce is hosting "Treats Around the Square" from 4:30- 7 p.m. Trick or Treaters and all those who would normally pass out candy from their houses are invited to come to the square and pass out candy with the chamber. Plans include face painting and fortune telling, and the chamber will be giving away cash prizes to some lucky trick or treaters.
Lewisburg Harvest Fest
A time of fun and fellowship will be held at the Lewisburg Fire Department from 5-8 p.m. The come-and-go event, known as Lewisburg Harvest Fest, is sponsored by the churches of Lewisburg, the fire department, and the city of Lewisburg.
Trick or Treat in the Plaza
Hanks Properties, located at Sugar Maple Plaza, adjacent to the Dollar Store on the bypass in Auburn, will once again sponsor the annual Trick or Treat in the Plaza on Halloween night from 4:30 until 7 p.m.
Several businesses will be participating, including Subway, which will give out free cookies, Barnes Insurance, Dollar General Store, Industrial Project & Design, Logan Telephone Coop, Auburn Tourism Commission and Pearce Memorial United Methodist Church.
All Auburn trick-or-treaters are invited to come by and get some goodies at Sugar Maple.
Harvest Fest in Russellville
Harvest Fest will be held on the Square in Russellville from 5-8 p.m. It's sponsored by Standing Stone Ministries and WCVK radio in conjunction with Main Street Russellville and a number of businesses. Admission will be canned food items, which will go to Good Samaritan. It will include gourd painting, a costume contest, puppets and other games. There will be lots of food and musical entertainment.
Fall festival for youth
The youth group of First Baptist Church, under the direction of Art Rogers, will host a fall festival for children ages 3-12 from 5-7 p.m. There will be fun for all, games, prizes, candy, popcorn as an alternative to traditional trick or treating.
Youth Halloween party
Concerned Citizens of Russellville and Logan County will have a youth Halloween party at the KP Hall, beginning at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
Judgment House at Eastside
Judgment House in Russellville, to be at Eastside Baptist Church. This is an alternative to a haunted house it depicts scenes from a life and what happens after death. Eastside will present the openings on Oct. 31 from 5 to 9 p.m. and Nov. 1 from 6 to 9 p.m. Due to the nature of the drama, it's recommended that children be at least 9 years old and older. Trunk or Treat at Pleasant Union
Pleasant Union General Baptist Church in Lewisburg will hold its annual Trunk or Treat on Friday, Oct. 31 from 5-6:30 p.m. For more information, call the church office at 755-2986 or visit the web at www.pleasantunion.com.
Hallelujah Night at Living Word
Living Word Church in Adairville will hold Hallelujah Night 2003 on Friday, Oct. 31, beginning at 5 p.m. Those attending can play games, win prizes and enjoy face painting. It will be done without costumes and is for age 2 through sixth grade.
