A former Russellville minister, Rev. John Wood, who owns the extensive collection and wrote the book, heads an international ministry headquartered in Waco, Texas, where he and his wife, Patricia, now reside.
While on visits to Russia as president of John Wood Ministries and The International Medical Education Foundation, Inc., which are engaged in religious, humanitarian and medical ministries in Ukraine and Russia, Wood acquired an extensive collection of the miniature lacquer art and has become an advocate for this unique art form.
The items on exhibit include hand-painted finely detailed boxes, brooches, nesting dolls, and ornaments which will be available for sale.
Rev. Wood will be guest of the Library and will present a short lecture on the art form plus share various items in his collection, some of which will be for sale. He will also sign copies of his book which will also be on sale.
Proceeds from the sale go toward such projects as a children's orphanage in Russia. There is no admission charge, and the public is invited to attend.
