Since 1991 I have called their house my home, and my children have become the eighth generation of family to call Schley home.
Lately I have been delving into the family history. I find it absolutely amazing that, except for the picture of the mill sent to the N-D&L by Drucilla Jones, no one in our family seems to have a picture of any of the buildings here in what was once the community of Schley.
At one time, Schley was home to a woolen mill, flour mill, sawmill, millinery shop, blacksmith shop, warehouse for storing grain, a store and several homes. At one point, electricity for the community was powered by the dam, which is still standing today.
I would like to enlist the aid of those in the community who might have pictures of any buildings that once stood in Schley. I am very interested in making copies of these pictures so that I might preserve them and share them with other family members.
If you have any pictures, I would certainly love to hear from you. You may contact me on the weekend. (Week nights are just too busy!) Our phone number is 539-3516. Your help would be greatly appreciated!
