Barnett scattered eight hits and limited the Patriots to the one run. Logan played error-less baseball.
Logan got only four hits off AC-S ace Phillip Carter, but they scored two runs in the first inning before Barnett and the defense shut the visitors down.
The runs came when Ryan Roche walked and Kelley Jordan tripled him in. Catcher Ryan Stokes the drove in Jordan with what proved to be the winning run.
The only other two Logan hits were by Jay Hart and Barnett.
"It was a good game with two senior pitchers working well," said Coach Ethan Meguiar. "The game got our season off to a good start."
n The Cougars didn't start well in their first road game Tuesday, falling behind defending regional champion Greenwood 14-1 in the first four innings.
That came after Jay Hart and Stokes hit back-to-back doubles to start the fifth. Gator Coach Chris Decker then pulled starter Alex McDougall in the fifth. The Cougars jumped on his replacements so fast and so hard, that Decker had to bring McDougall back to the mound.
The Cougars scored 10 runs in that fifth inning to pull within 14-12, but McDougall struck five of six batters in the final two innings to shut down Logan's offense. The Gators, who were playing their first game of the season, scored five runs in the last two innings to win 19-12.
Senior Derek Miller and sophomores Bryan Fuller and Curt Whittington pitched for the Cougars.
