The Logan County Chapter of the American Red Cross is asking the people of Logan County to help the chapter support our men and women in the armed forces in Afghanistan. The chapter received this notice from the Red Cross station manager in Afghanistan.

"Exchange and morale and recreation services are minimal at best. The troops are desperate for items from home as they are living day-to-day with very little. Their tents have no electricity and shower facilities are limited."

The chapter is asking the people of Logan County to donate any of the quality life items to bring a touch of home to U.S. forces stationed throughout Afghanistan.

Items needed include: individually wrapped hard candy, cookies, peanuts, pretzels, and other food snacks; wet wipes, sun screen, lip balm, foot powder, small pencil sharpeners, Kool-Aid (with sugar in it) or other drink mixes; greeting cards (for birthday, anniversary, etc.); toiletry items such as razors, shaving cream, tooth brushes, toothpaste, shower soap; playing cards, small board games like Chess/Checkers, Dominoes, Uno, Yahtze and Jigsaw puzzle books.

Please bring these items by the chapter office Monday through Friday 8 a.m. through 4 p.m. at 219 South Main Street in Russellville. If you or your group cannot bring the items to the office, please call 270-726-6038 and arrangements will be made to pick them up.

The chapter will package the items and ship them to the Red Cross manager in Afghanistan to assure they reach the troops.

The chapter is also requesting financial donations to help defray the cost of shipping. The chapter plans to continue this program through Oct. 26, 2002.
