The United Way of Southern Kentucky Board of Directors has approved the recommendations of Logan County donors and volunteers to distribute more than $166,000 to needed social services and programs.

Of that amount, $144, 580 is in base funding for United Way partner agencies that directly serve Logan County residents. The individual agency funding amounts were recommended by a volunteer committee of Logan County donors and community representatives. Base funding amounts include gifts that local donors specifically designated to those agencies.

Another $21,802 will be distributed to non-United Way agencies and other geographic areas according to the specific designations of donors. Often, donors who work in Logan County but live in neighboring counties designate their United Way gifts for use in their home counties.

Logan County also receives such designations from other counties where Logan residents work and donate to United Way. Base funding amounts are determined only after the local Logan County Allocations Committee reviews financial needs of the requesting agencies and the United Way.

The Logan County Allocations Committee was chaired this year by Stanley Knight of US Bank and was made up of local volunteers, including Jeanne Cook, Bill Johnson, Melanie Manley, Rose Mimms, Kim Richardson, Kay Romans, Joyce Stanley, Jim Thompson and Curtis Watkins.
