Upon arrival, the police discovered 45-year-old Kenneth R. Hankins sitting on the porch of a residence, bleeding profusely from the head and face.
Hankins was taken to Logan Memorial Hospital by Med-Center EMS, where he was treated and then transported to Vanderbilt University Hospital for further treatment suffered in the altercation.
Before being transported, he advised officers that he had been assaulted by 44-year-old Joey Wilson of 251 East 10 Street.
Officers went to the location in which Hankins alleged the altercation occurred and met with Wilson.
He was then taken into custody by police without incident and lodged in the Logan County Detention Center on charges of assault in the first degree (felony).
While officers were at the residence, they discovered a large amount of blood inside the home. They also located parts of a broom handle believed to have been the weapon used in the crime.
