Rocky Rager, 46, an operating technician in the cold mill unit, was caught between the cold rolling mill and and a roll changing piece of equipment at approximately 11:40 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26.
Logan Aluminum EMTs responded immediately. Rager was a member of the plant's fire department himself.
Deputy Coroners Van Allen and Jerry Cox were called to the scene and investigated. They ruled him dead at 12:48 a.m..
Coroner Phil Gregory said Monday that the accidental death was the result of a "massive blunt crush injury."
Logan Aluminum officials said the cause of the accident is under investigation.
The plant has been honored on state and national levels for safety practices, but it is the nature of the equipment there that severe injuries are always a possibility.
