She was born in Simpson County Feb. 12, 1910, a daughter of the late Thomas Ballard Soyars and the late Della Gertrude Chaney Soyars. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rutherford was preceded in death by her husband, James Perry Rutherford; her son, Perry Dean Rutherford, and her sister, Maxine Marbury.
Mrs. Rutherford was employed as a secretary at Caldwell Lace Leather Company, then was the floor supervisor of Auburn Hosiery Mill. She was an 87 year member of Auburn Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 3 at 11 a.m. at the Young Funeral Home Auburn Chapel with Brother Eugene Reynolds and Brother Gene Vincent officiating. Visitation was held Friday, Sept. 2, from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 3, at 9 a.m. until time of service. Burial followed in the Auburn Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Scotty Woodward, Joel Hayes, Marion Appling, James Roger Hollins, Johnny Vincent, Gordon Caudill, Grover Corum, and Walter Poole.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Bales and husband Jerry of Louisville, Emily Hayes and husband Tommy of Auburn and Susan Housley and husband Ray of Hallettsville, Texas; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
