After a long lay off due to scheduling conflicts and rain, the Russellville and Logan County softball teams finally got to play in the ‘Clash of the Cats’game. The game earlier this season had been rained out but they managed to make it up on Friday, May 6th.

With a rivalry game comes the added pressure of performing well in front of the crowd. Both teams put on a show, but ultimately the Lady Cougars took the game, winning 16-9.

The Lady Cougars had their ace, Victoria Cates take the mound as she was looking to regain her early season form. Cates would come out and shut down RHS with three solid innings striking out only one, but only allowing one hit. In the second inning LCHS would blow the doors open on the game and pushed across 10 runs with Jonique Smith providing the exclamation point with a towering homerun. With that lead it looked as if the Cougars could cruise to an easy win.

But the Lady Panthers would not go quietly into the dark.

They would respond, jumping on the new Logan County pitcher, Megan Ferguson, for two quick runs. They would close the gap and looked to steal one on the road.

But again, LCHS had an answer as they stopped the bleeding and tacked on a few more runs to complete the game, winning the opening game of the series 16-9.

Russellville will return home tonight to take on a strong Metcalfe County team who will bring their 15-5 record to RHS. They will try and salvage their season that was mired by setbacks and a coaching change midway through the season.

Logan County will go on the road tonight to continue their success when they face off against Todd County. They will try and improve and get some late season momentum as they prepare for the end of the season tournaments.
