Firefighters began attacking the blaze, which was thought to have started in the kitchen area of the two story house, and continued on to the upstairs portion of the home.
According to Fire Chief Billy Poole, there were nine Hispanics living in the rental house, but were not home at the time of the fire.
It took firefighters 30 minutes to extinguish the fire and another hour and a half hitting the hot spots making sure the fire would not reignite.
"The firemen worked really well last night. They used their training and it showed," said Poole.
Firefighters braved the smoke and flames on the inside of the structure, as well as the outside. They could be seen on top of the house in the middle of bellowing black smoke cutting a ventalation hole in the roof to release the heat and smoke from downstairs so firefighters could see their way around inside.
