After losses to Bowling Green High School on Senior Night, the Russellville High School basketball teams responded later in the week to make sure they each entered postseason play on a positive note.
The Panthers beat Butler County 88-57 on Friday night in Morgantown to improve to 17-6 on the year.
Pedro Brawshaw led the Panthers in scoring with 21 points. Jason Mitchell added 17 points of his own, nine of which came off of three 3-pointers. Jaylyn McMurry and Jacob Naylor each scored 11 apiece and Micah Naylor added 10 points to give Russellville three players in double digits in scored.
Russellville ended the regular season winning six of its final eight games, with the lone losses coming to Fourth Region heavyweights Franklin-Simpson and Bowling Green High School.
The Panthers will be back in action tonight at home in the first round of the District 13 Tournament against arch-rival Logan County. Russellville beat the Cougars twice in the regular season.
The Lady Panthers ended their regular season campaign on Friday night with a 61-34 victory at Dawson Springs. That gave RHS three wins in their last four to end the regular season.
Against Dawson Springs, Loreal Cheaney led the Lady Panthers in scoring with 16 points. Davona Bryant scored 13 points and hit three 3-pointers. Deshala LeBlanc added 10 points and Gabbi Poirier contributed eight points.
The Lady Panthers will take on Franklin-Simpson at home tonight in the first round of the District 13 Tournament.
