Redshirt freshman punter Landon Stratton has been chosen as one 34 punters who have been named to the 2015 College Football Performance Awards Special Teams Watch List. He is one of four OVC punters named to the list and just one of three freshman.
The Russellville native has an outstanding freshman campaign, averaging 42.1 yards on 52 punts with no blocks, which currently ranks him 19th in all of the FCS. He has had 13 punts go for 50 yards or more, including a long of 74 against Eastern Illinois.
Stratton has had nine touchbacks this season, been fair caught 10 times and has pinned opponents inside the 20-yard line on 12 occasions. This is not the first honor of the year for Stratton as was named as Specialist of the Week by the OVC for his performance at Western Michigan.
Stratton and his teammates will suit up for their last game this season Saturday, when they travel to Jacksonville, Alabama for a face-off with No. 1 Jacksonville State. Kick-off at Burgess-Snow Field in scheduled for 1 p.m.
Landon is a graduate of Logan County High School. He attends and plays football for Murray State University. He is the son of Russellville Mayor Mark and Connie Stratton.
