Kentucky crop prospects reduced by the dry summer
Kentucky crop prospects for 2008 were reduced by the hot and dry summer according to the Kentucky Field office of the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Kentucky winter wheat seeded acreage decreased
Kentucky farmers seeded an estimated 490,000 acres to winter wheat during the fall of 2008 for the 2009 crop according to the Kentucky Field Office of the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. This was a decrease of 90,000 acres from the 2008 crop. Winter wheat seeded in Kentucky is utilized for grain, hay, silage and as a cover crop prior to setting tobacco. FFA Land Judging Team places fifth
The Logan County FFA Chapter competed in the Regional Land Judging Competition on Sept. 17, 2008 in Metcalfe County. The team consisted of Jon Keith Smith, Zeke Gainous, Jacob Hopkins and Holden Hudnall. The team evaluated four sites of soil on Slope, Workability, Conservation Practices, Erosion, Erosion Hazards and Capability Class. The team placed fifth in the competition. The Logan County FFA Bow Shoot was held Oct. 18, 2008 at Hunters Den. There were 12 participants.
