The Logan County High School football team opened the season Friday night with a game against the Butler County Bears. The Cougars were ready and fired up for the game, but in the end came up short to the Bears with a 27-13 loss.
The first half of the game the Cougars showed good potential and enthusiasm against the Bears but it faded after halftime. Senior Justin Rone scored the first touchdown for the Cougars with three minutes to go in the first quarter.
Early in the second quarter, Butler County came back and scored a touchdown to tie the game. The Cougars fought back and sophomore Taylor Blakemore scored the second touchdown at the end of the second quarter.
In the second half, the Cougars would fall as the Bears scored three more touchdowns which would result in a 27-13 loss.
“We played a really good football team and got out played,” said LCHS coach Dain Gregory. “We hit a wall at the end of the second quarter and we don’t know how to push through that wall yet.”
Gregory said the team played a sloppy game in the second half and had several missed opportunities. The Cougars head to South Warren next Friday to face the Spartans. Gregory says the team is going to prepare for this game.
“We’ve got to fix our mistakes and we will have a very competitive game next week against a good football team,” said Gregory.
Logan County (0-1) will be back in action this week at South Warren. Last season, the Cougars beat South Warren for their first-ever win under coach Gregory.
