The Russellville Panthers faced their district rivals, the Mayfield Cardinals, on Friday night.
The Panthers fought hard but couldn’t keep the Cardinals from winning 27-7. This brings the Panthers overall season record to 6-3.
The Panthers defense worked hard the first quarter and prevented the Cardinals from scoring but the Cardinals managed to score a 29 yard field goal at the end of the first quarter taking the lead of 3-0.
The Panthers would score first in the second quarter with a 58 yard touchdown pass from Barrett Croslin to Josh Hampton to put the Panthers in the lead. But Mayfield would quickly respond with two touchdowns in the second half to gain a big lead of 17-7 going into the half.
The Panthers worked hard but couldn’t keep the Cardinals from scoring another touchdown and long field goal to end the game 27-7.
The Panthers would end the game with a total of 129 offensive yards with 60 yards rushing and 69 yards passing. Josh Hines would lead the Panthers with 33 rushing yards with Dustin Morgan following with 22 rushing yards. Croslin finished with 69 passing yards and one touchdown pass. Josh Hampton would finished the game with 63 yards receiving for the Panthers.
“I couldn’t have asked for anything more. They battled their hearts out tonight,” said head coach John Myers. “We had a tough challenge tonight and offensively we’ve got to learn to to move the ball against this team.”
The Panthers also recognized their seniors at the game. The Panthers will say goodbye to four seniors this year which include Daniel Duncan, Josh Hampton, Zach Hines and AK Tisdale.
“I’m very proud of the seniors. They put us in the position to compete in the highest level,” said Myers.
The Panthers will face their rival the Logan County Cougars at the Clash of the Clash game at Logan County High School on Friday.
