The Russellville Panther football traveled to face the Kentucky Country Day Bearcats in the second round of the playoffs on Friday. The Panthers lost to the Bearcats 27-12 to end their season with an overall record of 8-4.
The KCD Bearcats put points on the scoreboard early in the first quarter with a 40 yard field goal. After the Bearcats score again in the first quarter and would lead 10-0 at the half.
Desmon Quarles scored the first touchdown for the Panthers with a five yard rush to put the Panthers in the game 17-6. Barrett Croslin completed a pass to Dustin Morgan in the beginning of the fourth quarter to bring the Panthers to 24-12.
The Bearcats would score again in the fourth to end the game 12-27 to end the season for the Panthers.
The Panthers ended the game with 291 offensive yards. Barrett Croslin ended the game with 98 yards rushing, 77 yards passing and one touchdown. Demarcus Hampton ended with 61 yards rushing followed by Desmon Quarles with 50. Josh Hampton lead the Panthers in receiving yards with 42 yards. Zach Hines followed with 26 yards receiving.
“We turned the ball over six times and we kept digging a hole. We had some opportunities but didn’t take advantage. I don’t feel like the best team won tonight. We beat ourselves,” said head coach John Myers. “The kids played their hearts out. I wish we would have figured out what to do offensively earlier but we made adjustments and started to move the ball well but it was too little too late.”
The Panthers also lose six seniors this year including Daniel Duncan, Troy Fulcher, Josh Hampton, Zach Hines, A.K. Tisdale and Luke Whittaker.
“I’m proud of our seniors. They have given their heart and soul to this team and I was hoping to see them go further. They are quality men and they have a bright future ahead of them. I’m going to miss them,” said Myers.
